Ability Plus is a space for parents and families with high-ability/gifted, 2E (twice exceptional) and 3E (thrice exceptional) children in India. We support parents, teachers and educators in identifying a child’s abilities, whether below, average or higher than ‘average/age-peers’, so that each child receives appropriate support and encouragement for their academic, cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
Our work extends across multiple spaces, all connected by a shared intention of building awareness, creating access, and supporting meaningful learning journeys for children and their families, in the context of the existing Indian education system.
Over the years, we have worked closely with parents through one-on-one consultations, guiding families in homeschooling and alternative education pathways, and supporting learners, especially those who are gifted, twice-exceptional (2E), or thrice-exceptional (3E), to find environments where they can truly thrive. These interactions have helped us develop a deeper understanding of the lived realities of families navigating systems that are often not designed for diverse learners.
Alongside this, our ongoing work with schools and educators focuses on bridging the gap between awareness and practice. In the absence of a formal Gifted Education Policy/Programme in India, through workshops, training sessions, and collaborative discussions, we support teachers in recognising diverse learning profiles and building classrooms that are responsive, flexible, and inclusive in real, practical ways.
We are also closely connected to a growing community of families homeschooling their children, a path being chosen widely by parents of gifted and 2E children in India in recent years. This includes facilitating parent circles, creating spaces for children to learn and interact together, and building support systems where families can share experiences, resources, and questions openly. These community spaces continue to evolve as safe, reflective, and collaborative environments for both parents and learners.
Our work further extends into research, writing, and advocacy. Through ongoing studies and publications, we explore how gifted and high-ability individuals are understood and represented, particularly within the Indian context. This includes engaging with themes such as media representation, higher education pathways, and the lived experiences of learners across different socio-economic and geographical settings.
We also place strong emphasis on learning from the field, through direct engagement with diverse communities, including rural and grassroots contexts, and through initiatives such as awareness sessions and interactions with individuals whose knowledge and experiences often remain under-recognised. These engagements continue to shape our understanding of giftedness as something that exists across contexts, cultures, and opportunities.
At its core, Ability Plus is not built around a single programme or approach. It is an evolving space, one that brings together consulting, community-building, training, and research, with the intention of supporting each learner’s journey in a way that is thoughtful, flexible, and deeply respectful of their individuality.

A short text about us…
We became a part of the Pune’s homeschooling community almost a decade ago, when I received invaluable support and guidance from fellow alternative schooling families. I was unsure if I would be able to take up the homeschooling path, especially as a single parent, but we’ve flourished both individually and as a family ever since.
For us, homeschooling is not just about academics or ‘schooling’, but a way of life. Over the years, we’ve cultivated our unique approach to how we want to progress in our learning journey. Primarily, shifting our focus from ‘learning to give exams’ to ‘learning to gain knowledge’. With ‘exposure’ being our main keyword, we constantly seek ways to increase it, often finding opportunities during one of our activities – whether it is long-drives, nature walks, wildlife rescues, environment conservation projects, video-gaming, planning our next art exhibition or learning about local history from rural community.
Currently, we are pursuing a multi-grade academic learning programme for my daughter, often taking help from experts, tutors and the alternate education community of India.
Driven by my personal journey of raising a gifted child in India, I transitioned from a Corporate Communications consultant to an Educational Consultant. My primary focus is to strengthen the support available for families with gifted children in India. Academically, I am a certified Gifted Educator, SEN Coach, Remedial Teacher, Adolescent Health and Sexuality Counsellor, Academic Counsellor, Child Psychology and Development Specialist, IEP Consultant for alternate schools, STEAM & Jolly Phonics trainer, Strategic Communicator, and Electronics Engineer. Currently, I am pursuing a doctoral degree that combines my varied personal and professional experiences to increase awareness about alternate academic options available for gifted, 2E and 3E children in India.
